Verlag – Jonathan Hoefler
I was lucky to receive the font "Verlag" by Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones, which I picked for my
design project. My concept evolved from the playing cards from "Alice in Wonderland", which were to
represent the legal dispute between Hoefler and Frere-Jones. In my realization, the two designers were
designed as king cards of a card game. I used their swords to visualize the dispute between them. The poster
and folder therefore not only reflect the aesthetics of the publisher's typeface, but also integrate
elements of "Alice in Wonderland" and the visualization of the legal dispute between Jonathan Hoefler and
Tobias Frere-Jones.
PS: In retrospect, Jonathan Hoefler personally drew my attention to the fact that the
font was created by him alone in 1995 and that all previous source references turned out to be false.
